Born in St Louis, Missouri, Michael Lovesmith became one of the most indispensable people in popular music. As a very young teen in college, he was enlisted by Holland-Dozier-Holland, writing songs for the likes of Dionne Warwick, His first hit on Dion was written at age 11. He was later signed by Berry Gordy and Suzanne De Passe becoming one of Motown Records most prolific writers, arrangers, engineers and staff producers.
Throughout his Motown career Michael also worked as a “vocal producer” for the likes of the Jackson 5, The Temptations, The Supremes, Michael Jackson (solo), Smokey Robinson and many top Motown acts.
Michael’s outside writing/producing/vocal credits include work with The Isley Brothers, Isaac Hayes, Honey Cone, Gladys Knight and the Pips, Dionne Warwick, Aretha Franklin, Whitney Houston, Barry White, Luther Vandross, John Denver, Richard Carpenter, Bobby Brown, Kanye West, Sean Combs and many others.
One of the hit songs Michael wrote for the Jackson 5 in the 70’s, “All I Do Is Think Of You”, became a NO#1 hit in the 90’s on the group called, “Troop”.
During the 1980s Michael Lovesmith became a solo performing artist, at the insistence of Jermaine & Michael Jackson, releasing 3 successful albums on Motown and one with his brothers called, “Lovesmith”.
Michael has held more executive posts than anyone in Motown Corporation’s history. Michael now operates as Mr Berry Gordy’s right-hand man and Executive Producer with Motown The Musical.
